ABSTRACT

This chapter examines a new method for historical documentation via Jeddah Heritage Building Information Modelling (JHBIM) and further via employing the Hijazi Architectural Objects Library. The historic district of Jeddah city is one of the most important and valuable parts of the Hijaz region. Historic Jeddah city is an outstanding cultural heritage site which was inducted into the world heritage list of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in 2012. The major issue that faces the historical district of Jeddah city, as the director of the historic area, Sami Nawwar, pointed out, is how the local authorities preserve such buildings from the risk of collapse and erosion by aging and human factors, as well as disasters such as fires and floods. In the case of applying the BIM method to Jeddah's historical buildings, it will provide many benefits, such as a better understanding and context of heritage buildings, knowledge of materials and also construction techniques.
