ABSTRACT
Many Americans do not readily recognize economic, social, and cultural rights as human rights in the same way they would something like torture or political imprisonment. Thus, there is an unfortunate tendency not to see such things as the lack of food, or safe and decent housing, or adequate health care as all constituting human rights violations. So it may seem strange to consider Midnight Cowboy to be a “human rights film.”
