ABSTRACT

In addition to animated films such as Persepolis and Waltz with Bashir, another vehicle for exploring human rights is the pseudo-documentary, where a film gives every appearance of being a documentary but in reality is a feature film with at least some professional actors. Present-day directors such as Michael Winterbottom (The Road to Guantanamo and In This World) and Errol Morris (Standard Operating Procedure, The Fog of War, and The Thin Blue Line) have used this technique in many of their films. However, the standard was set in the following film, which even many modern viewers think is a documentary.
