Whether or not each hemisphere of the brain has the capacity to develop language has been the dominant question that has driven research into the effect of left-hemisphere (LH) stroke in children. In adults, LH stroke can seriously disrupt the use of grammar and the retrieval of vocabulary but in children any effect upon language is usually weak and less lateralised.
