ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a brief description of the original Enrichment Triad Model, a description of the Schoolwide Enrichment Model (SEM), and a summary of pertinent research highlights. The SEM promotes engagement using three types of enjoyable, challenging, and interest-based enrichment experiences. The Enrichment Triad Model and SEM both have their basis in the Three-Ring Conception of Giftedness and a focus on the development of both academic and creative–productive giftedness. Research studies of the SEM have demonstrated its effectiveness in schools with widely differing socioeconomic levels and program organization patterns. The regular curriculum consists of everything that is a part of the predetermined goals, schedules, learning outcomes, and delivery systems of the school. The regular curriculum is influenced by the implementation of SEM through differentiating the challenge level of required material using curriculum compacting and the enrichment recommended in the Enrichment Triad Model. Enrichment clusters incorporate the use of advanced content, providing students with information about particular fields of knowledge.
