ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the subject and practice of knowledge in management consulting. Knowledge is the creation of the human experience, and wisdom is the personification of knowledge. Both are essential assets to competing successfully in a notoriously intense and rival rich industry. As in any profession, society and endeavor, knowledge is multi-dimensional. Knowledge is "fun" in that once learned and applied, it changes and it evolves. As consulting is both professional and process-centric, consulting knowledge not only incorporates the few elements of knowledge, it most certainly must include a significant amount of personal perspective as characterized by both tacit knowledge and wisdom. Human capital and knowledge are the essential attributes of the industry. The most successful consultants integrate the appropriate academic training, deep subject matter and industry expertise, professional experience and business and personal acumen to craft creative and responsive solutions for their clients.
