ABSTRACT

Vocabulary-based activities with corpora are the ones most commonly developed and used by teachers in the classroom for a range of learners. This reflects CL’s tradition of making use of corpora in dictionary production and the benefits of using concordances to concretely and fully define a word and explore its various meanings. There are three vocabulary-based lessons presented in this section: (1) “Identifying and Analyzing Vocabulary from Authentic Materials in a Content-Based ESP Class,” (2) “Using a Concordancer for Vocabulary Learning with Pre-Intermediate EFL Students,” and (3) “Implementing the Frequency-Based VocabProfile Tool from LexTutor: Improving English Learners’ Essay Writing for Proficiency Exams.”
