ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapter of this book. The book focuses on key thinkers who, in the context of a specific moment in history, made a mark on the tradition. It explores the primary sources of the thinkers themselves, and mines the bibliographies for key secondary sources. The book helps the reader to begin the process of piecing together his or her own narrative of the just war tradition, with the aspiration that this may provide insight in their analysis of the conflicts of tomorrow. It highlights several points to guide the reader's reflection. By returning to the tradition for examples of how to incorporate conflict with "barbarians" into the realm of morality, the readers become acutely aware of the relationship between just war discourse and power dynamics, between just war and imperial machinations.
