ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the general tendencies and conclusions of the action research process with concrete cases illustrating the experiences. Foresee Research Group, the Hungarian partner of ALTERNATIVE, was responsible for implementing the action research focusing on intercultural conflicts in a Hungarian village with approximately 2,800 inhabitants. The research team observed conflicts from the widest distance when it got an insight into and followed the pathway of a conflict case, but not requested to be of any kind of assistance. The failure of formal dialogue processes in most cases made the team reconsider some of the basic methodological principles of restorative interventions. The dialogue process around the conflict between the research team and the new local leaders built bridges between local people and the research team, and led to acceptance of the restorative approach in the locality.
