ABSTRACT

From the beginning of the eighties of the 20th century, audio-visual products such as films, theatre and media events began to be provided by means of oral descriptions in the gaps between dialogues in order to make them accessible to visually impaired people. Schmeidler and Kirchner (2001), Bourne and Jiménez Hurtado (2007) and Snyder (2011) have shown that this new mode of AVT, called audio description (AD), not only increases the accessibility to audio-visual products for the visually challenged people, but also for children, elderly people and immigrants. Additionally, it has recently been applied in the foreign language (FL) classroom (Clouet, 2005; Ibáñez Moreno & Vermeulen, 2013, 2014).
