ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book presents a wide variety of adaptations of Margaret Lowenfeld's World Technique, and Dora M. Kalff's sandplay therapy. It shows highly innovative adaptations of the sand tray and figures to a variety of applications in education and clinical supervision. No one person or organization has purchase on the tray of sand and the miniature figures of sandplay, or on how they are to be used. The book examines the necessity for a clear understanding of the theory supporting each application, along with thorough training and competence in the chosen technique, prior to using the sand tray in the clinical or educational setting. The presence of the therapist and how he or she holds his or her awareness is what determines if the client's use of the tray is to express feelings, to gain insight, or to facilitate psychic transformation.
