ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the Pink swing Park case in the wider context of other artworks that have been the subject of complaints from conservative Islamic groups during the Reformasi era, whether those complaints were expressed in legal and or other ways. Pink swing Park was targeted because one of the models, Anjasmara, was a well-known soap opera star. In addition to Front Pembela Islam (FPI's) objection to a public figure posing nude, and thus setting a 'bad example for youth', it was significant that Anjasmara had appeared in a Ramadan soap opera, playing a devout Muslim teacher. The mass media reported on Pink swing Park, suggesting that the poses were sensational and the models entirely nude. The Pink swing case demonstrated a lack of understanding of art in the general community, in addition to bad reporting by the media. Supangkat, Suwage and Enin Supriyanto all agreed that without the involvement of Anjasmara, Pink swing Park would not have been targeted.
