ABSTRACT

From grassroots to elite football contexts, the quality of young players’ sporting experience is recognised to be critical to sustained participation as well as the extent to which players maximise their capabilities and realise wellbeing when playing the sport. The coach and the environment he/she creates are recognised to be central determinants of whether young footballers’ participation is more or less positive or maladaptive. Consequently, coaches are encouraged to engage in training in order to learn how they can maximise their role and responsibilities when interacting with their players.
