ABSTRACT

This part introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters. The part explores engaged scholarship involves a relationship between academics and practitioners, and BOTH parties need to build their skills to perform these tasks well." It shows about the technical requirements of rigorous research and more about the human qualities that help both constituencies relate effectively in the service of something more than just the institution they work for. The part illustrates the experience of working with the personal challenges of differentiation and integration as an apprentice researcher on a practice-based doctoral programme in the UK. The personal development experienced by the individual is one of understanding the different language, norms, and values of each world and then integrating them into a capability to deliver results in both effectively. The part offers some helpful guidance for designing a space conducive to managing the tensions and paradoxes.
