ABSTRACT
Higher education in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is in the throes of a major change propelled by political, demographic and economic transformations. Until recently these would have been considered nearly inconceivable and include the shift from state-sponsored education in post-independent populist countries to massive privatization.
