ABSTRACT

At many preschools and primary grade schools, defining an approach to technology is an important part of the school’s outward-facing brand. Schools may emphasize their approach on their website or with images. Some schools overtly or subtly emphasize the lack of technology as a guarantor of quality while others emphasize the integration of technology or a “stateof-the-art” high-tech environment as a signifier of quality. Often, schools promote their approach to integrating (or abstaining from) technology without deep considerations for current or potential parents’ questions about the role digital devices might play in inquiry, documentation, exploration, collaboration, and play at the school.
