ABSTRACT

This chapter presents indigenous tools in the process towards inclusive education. It examines the traditional prenatal practices of India and focuses certain aspects of these practices that are hugely relevant to education and learning. Inclusion in education is concerned with an individual's effective participation in society and reaching his or her full potential, and inclusion often requires a shift in people's attitudes and values. The chapter uses the phrase instructional design' to denote that branch of knowledge concerned with research and theory about instructional strategies and the process for developing and implementing those strategies. It focuses on the elements of the prenatal Samskaaraas that have direct relevance for learning and education. It also lays a special focus on the instructional design of the Samskaaraas and explores how it supports inclusion as an integral part of its lifelong educational process.
