Rural and farmers' protest movements in Tunisia and Egypt in the era of Arab revolts

Most analyses of the 2010–2012 ‘Arab revolts’ have paid little attention to rural protest movements in the region. Yet both in Tunisia and in Egypt, the popular revolts that led to the fall of the Ben Ali and Mubarak regimes were preceded by numerous conflicts and social mobilizations, which had significant effects on rural and farming areas.
