ABSTRACT

This chapter describes positive education to illustrate the potential for positive psychology to influence policy and the kinds of considerations that will be necessary. It aims to encourage positive education researchers to move forward with policy criteria in mind, rather than as a definitive analysis of positive education studies against the policy criteria. The chapter outlines some of the key theories, concepts, and considerations in policymaking that positive psychology researchers will benefit from. It also aims to inspire researchers in positive psychology to start thinking about ways to better translate their research into public policy in order to bring about population-level flourishing. Well-being has become a significant focus for governments, providing an excellent opportunity for positive psychology and positive education researchers to influence the policymaking process. Positive psychology is the study of human flourishing at the individual, group, community, and system levels.
