ABSTRACT

This chapter will be devoted to a discussion of the music markets out-side the major music industry cities. Some of these regions are definedby a specific musical style, such as Cajun music in Louisiana, while others are based on their geographic location. Denver, for example, is at least five hundred miles away from any other medium-sized city, and thus is the center for a large geographic region. We will begin by examining the ingredients that go into making a regional scene a success, and then trace some regional stories that illustrate how these ingredients interact in the real world.
