ABSTRACT
This chapter provides a brief overview about the history and the current development of golf in Europe. Furthermore, the continental structure of the sport is outlined by presenting some key European golf organizations. In addition, drivers for the demand of golf are presented. Furthermore, management challenges on the supply side, that derive from current trends, are also discussed. This chapter provides a flashback of the past, a snapshot of the present and some ideas of what the future might hold for European golf. Through reading that chapter the reader should get a better understanding what has driven and continues to drive demand and supply of golf in Europe.
