ABSTRACT

This chapter contains strategies most important to that process, as well as strategies most frequently neglected by educator leaders. By employing each of the strategies, one can maximize their climate's chances of helping data work for staff. In the National Longitudinal Evaluation of Comprehensive School Reform, it was found when staff members are involved at the onset of an adoption of a comprehensive school reform; their involvement is likely to foster a climate in which teachers are united behind a common goal. Creating a climate of "controlled urgency" is essential. A leader must teach and inspire staff to both understand and trust the data. If teachers understand and trust in the assessment tools then utilizing the data becomes a natural progression. This is a process which requires time, trust, open communication lines and an unfailing commitment by the school leader to continuously drive the process.
