ABSTRACT

Workplace conflict resolution programs intended to achieve and maintain low levels of unresolved conflict have to be firmly grounded in the needs and interests of the individual and organizational clients they serve. Interpersonal conflict at work is a risk factor for reduced employee wellbeing. The social support and cohesion of the work group is vital to employees' work functioning. Organizations began offering more comprehensive conflict management systems that could accommodate the resolution of interpersonal conflict through neutral mediators or arbitrators. Options for conflict resolution have proliferated, to the point that a large menu of conflict interventions is available to organizations. It concludes with the recommendations for selecting and implementing right-sized conflict supports for interested organizations. Workplace mediation and workplace complaint programs are tertiary alternative dispute resolution interventions that can help resolve the issue without resorting to grievance, arbitration, or legal action. The tertiary interventions of workplace mediation and internal complaint systems are designed to capture and respond to individual cases.
