ABSTRACT

There are several certainties in life, and while death and taxes likely come to mind, another that should ring true is that people are social beings. Admittedly, we share this characteristic with many other living organisms, be they on land (e.g., gorillas, wolves) or in the sea (e.g., dolphins, orcas). However, it has been suggested that the single most important characteristic of human beings is the need for group membership (Forsyth & Burnett, 2010).
