ABSTRACT

The discourse of human rights cuts across a wide variety of fields and disciplines. This consideration is reflected in the broad audience with which this book seeks to engage, which ranges from students and academics to NGO and civil society workers. This introductory chapter sets the scene and contextualises the core methods outlined in the substantive chapters of this book. It encourages the reader to think holistically about which approaches will be appropriate to answer particular research questions, before drilling down into the specifics of each method.
