ABSTRACT
It is more diverse than ever before with many facets to become involved in, from artistic development, design, and road positions, to sales and technical services. While the old adage, “do what you love and the money will follow,” may in some cases be true, the passion that drives you needs to be associated with multiple interests to stay financially afloat. You may be chasing the dream of becoming a lighting designer or director for a major production, but keep it real; there are bills to pay! Diversify and continue to expand your knowledge base so that you will understand enough about each of the fields that make up the business. It will make a far more interesting career and enable you to speak knowledgeably with others-some who you may think are out of your league-but in the end, you will be able to garner their trust. This is the basis for effectual networking.
