ABSTRACT

People kept asking, “How are your parents doing?” What about me? Don’t they want to know how I’m doing?

On October 22, 1989, Jacob Wetterling of St. Joseph, Minnesota, and his brother and a friend were bicycling home from a convenience store at dusk. A half mile from home, they were confronted by a masked man with a gun. He told the boys to lie down in a ditch or he would shoot. He asked their ages. Trevor was 10, Aaron 11, and Jacob 11. He told Trevor to run into the woods or he would shoot, so Trevor took off. He said the same thing to Aaron and Aaron took off, but as he was leaving he saw the man put his hand on Jacob’s shoulder, and when Aaron caught up to Trevor and they looked back, they were gone. The boys ran home and told the babysitter to call 911. “Somebody took Jacob,” Trevor screamed.
