ABSTRACT

This part introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the second part of this book. The part focuses on sex offender treatment and articulates the value of integrating treatment approaches by commenting on the commonality in content across programmes. It reviews the literature on intimate partner violence (IPV) and its link to treatment. In applying the Risk, Needs and Responsivity principles, the part demonstrates well the sheer complexities of this area of work. It addresses an area historically overlooked in forensic practice but increasingly recognised as an area of important application, namely trauma. The part also focuses on personality disorder and the importance of the integration of concepts and therapeutic approaches. Personality disorder is not unique to offender groups but it is certainly of higher prevalence in detained prisoners and those detained in secure psychiatric settings.
