ABSTRACT

I think I was always a feminist, just as I think I was always a lesbian—though I didn’t know either fact about my identity until my mid-20s for the latter and the mid-30s for the former. When I was in high school I wrote an essay on women doctors—the first clear evidence of my feminism. And I somehow always knew that I would never marry but I would be a doctor, (as it turned out, a Ph.D. rather than an M.D.).
