ABSTRACT

Digital media, as the name suggests, happens through the digits, but expands the ngers and the perception. Young children’s interactions with touch-sensitive digital technologies happen when their hands communicate their intention to the device. However, hands are more than just tools in this case-they demonstrate intention, hesitation as well as action. As Keogh has described in relation to videogames: “Input devices-gamepads, joysticks, keyboards, mice, motion sensors, touchscreens-are the umbilical through which the player’s senses, intent, and identity are transported (or more accurately, translated) into the virtual world” (2015, 118).
