ABSTRACT

Environmental damage inflicted by resource mismanagement has moved consumers to demand greater discrimination between products based on their environmental performance. An eco-label provides information to help consumers make more informed purchasing choices. Procurement professionals interested in supporting sustainable practices appreciate independent labelling to help identify products that have verifiable environmental or social benefits. But the question remains, how are eco-labels attributed? On what criteria are they based? How can we determine their veracity?
