ABSTRACT

As explained in Chapter 10, the environmental impact of private consumption is a cause of environmental damage worldwide (Tukker et al. 2006), and food production and consumption are no exception. This has led to the development of methods used to study sustainability issues surrounding agri-food chains. Among these, life cycle assessment (LCA; see Chapter 10) is a powerful tool that can clearly identify the environmental burdens of a product system throughout its life cycle (Notarnicola et al. 2015).
