ABSTRACT

Military awareness and services for mental and behavioral health continue to increase, but specialized treatment options for perinatal mood disorders remain underdeveloped in the military system. Much of any peri-natal care and especially for specialized care such as for perinatal mood disorders is deferred to civilian network providers for military members and their families. Behavioral health treatment for military members is usually available at military treatment facilities, or otherwise abbreviated as MTF. Chaplains are well known for their spiritual and religious support to the operational military. The Family Advocacy Program includes specific additional programs of the New Parents Support Program and the Victims Advocacy Program. Postpartum Progress is nonprofit peer-to-peer support organization that includes a blog website to raise awareness, fight stigma and provide peer support and programming to women with maternal mental illness.
