ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of key concepts covered in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book, Hadiprayitno examines the Merauke Integrated Food and Energy Estate agricultural modernisation project which aimed to increase food production and safeguard its availability. Food is essential for life, yet for many, access to adequate food is denied. The book presents a systematic literature review of food systems governance from Otto Hospes and Anke Brons. For readers new to the subject of food systems governance, Hospes and Brons carefully detail the development of the literature on this subject, assessing how food systems governance has been addressed in academic publications, and identifying the weaknesses as well as desired options for change. Nonetheless, food systems governance is emerging as a conceptual field. Scholars have increasingly called for greater attention to the architecture of food systems governance to ensure a sustainable and safe global food supply into the future.
