ABSTRACT

Computational Linguistics is the scientific study and information processing of language using computers. The purpose is to obtain a better understanding of how languages work and to bring more convenience to language application. Like general linguistics, computational linguistics pays more attention to natural languages (such as Chinese and English, which have naturally evolved through human history) rather than artificial languages (such as logic and programming languages, which were artificially designed). The term ‘Computational Linguistics’ is often employed interchangeably with ‘Natural Language Processing’, though the former usually refers to more theoretical studies while the latter more technical.
