ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the key steps one need to take to become a trainee, and key features of the final stage that one need to successfully navigate in order to become fully qualified. The Stage 2 training process aims to give people the opportunity to develop competence in four key areas. It is also important to remember that the level of competence required in four areas of Stage 2 training is designed to be congruent with doctoral qualifications. If one working part-time and job is not sport and exercise psychology industry-related, it is probably more realistic to take additional time to successfully complete the stage of training. Given the varied nature of sport and exercise psychology consultancy, it would actually be disadvantageous to do this, as it would risk one becoming narrow in their exposure to different sports and clients. The chapter discuses some of the important ongoing considerations for the trainee during their professional development, including the importance of effective supervision.
