ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews the economic and reputation impacts of corruption. In doing so, the chapter outlines several definitions of corruption along with several frameworks to understand corruption and its economic and reputation impacts. The research regarding these impacts is reviewed along with an extended look at three distinct cases of corruption within sport: strategic effort, organisational misconduct in the NCAA, and match-fixing. With the review of the literature emerges three broad areas of future research, including the need to investigate using multiple research methods and understand instances where corruption may lead to positive economic and reputation impacts.
