ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book presents the five points of inception and diversion in the Sequential Intercept Model. It also presents a host of suggestions related to diversion and more positive interventions in the forensic mental health system. The book also presents suggestions related to systems integration for further reflection and evaluation. It provides a foundation against which generalizations can be made on the role of trauma as it relates to mental health and co-occurring substance abuse disorders and, ultimately, justice involvement for many individuals. The book discusses trauma and its role in the forensic mental health system. It indicates the increasing need for juvenile and criminal justice officials who are trained specifically in crisis intervention and various mental health-related issues. The book focuses on ways to potentially funnel person with mental illness out of the juvenile and criminal justice systems.
