ABSTRACT

The inner-western Melbourne suburb of Yarraville is a case study in urban change. This former working-class locale has seen its formerly large Greek population, many of whom spent their lives working in nearby manufacturing plants, progressively replaced by urban professionals attracted by Yarraville’s proximity to the Melbourne city centre and heritage architecture, as well as the restaurants and boutique shops in the precinct around the Yarraville railway station, rebranded in recent years as ‘Yarraville Village.’
