ABSTRACT
The scene opens on a Holden automobile parked on the side of Elizabeth Street, Melbourne, looking south towards the Flinders Street Train Station. The camera pans up and lingers on the streetscape. The city is bustling with cyclists, horse-driven carriages and a lone tram. Centre screen, at the top of a building, is the face of a giant cartoon cat. His ears extend above the parapet and he looks excitedly at the slogan: ‘Mazda Lamps-They Stay Brighter Longer.’ Cut to a man in a white naval uniform stepping off the tram and walking towards the Department of the Navy office.
