ABSTRACT

The big idea behind Teacher Learning and Leadership Program (TLLP) was that teachers would write a proposal in which they would organize professional development. TLLP involves three goals developed by Ontario Teacher's Federation (OTF) and the Ministry to: support experienced teachers to undertake self-directed advanced professional development; develop teacher's leadership skills for sharing their professional learning and exemplary practices. Importantly, TLLP is seen as one step on a continuum of teacher education and professional learning in Ontario. Teachers first come up with the professional development idea, then they research it themselves, rather than having information presented to them by experts. The vast majority of TLLP projects considered their main audience to be other teachers, hence the focus on teacher's collaborative professional learning plus development of resources for use by teachers. To support further sustaining and spreading of practices from TLLP projects, the Provincial Knowledge Exchange (PKE) has recently been introduced to enable school districts to identify TLLP projects.
