ABSTRACT

In this section we offer some ideas for teachers, children and researchers to experiment with, using the MIROR software. This is, of course, just the tip of the iceberg and we are sure that you will discover many other exciting possibilities. We hope you will want to share these with us and that we shall be able to post them on the website at intervals. We start with some basic information about installing the free software, connecting your computer to a keyboard and exploring the functions of the software. Then we suggest activities that can be used for individual or pair work (though many of these can be adapted for classroom use) and finally some ways of incorporating MIROR with groups of children. We have tried to demystify the writing by avoiding technical or music-specific language, wherever possible. However, some musical terms are very helpful for children to use when talking about their work, and we expect that teachers will want to introduce whatever language seems appropriate to their class.
