ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on academic life at Oxford University commonly known as the 'Gown', and not with the city at large commonly known as the 'Town'. It focuses on the authors' knot of complicated feelings about Oxford. C. G. Jung and the Jungian analysts and scholars James Hillman and Murray Stein, authors guide, each of whom provided me with a template for analyzing the city. Another great guide is Inspector Morse himself, who is never afraid of the dark side of the city and always confronts evil perpetrators with their crimes. Hillman uses the image of an alchemical glass vessel to describe the psyche's need to move around and transcend problematic symptoms within a safe and contained space during therapy. While Hillman is not talking here about the cinema or television, his ideas can be applied effectively to these genres, as Jungian writer scholar Luke Hockley shows.
