ABSTRACT

This chapter talks about the human body that illustrates the structure and functioning of complex dynamical systems which are the units of theoretical consideration in chaos theory in general. It describes the major difference between the approaches, from a chaos theory perspective, relates to the complexity of the patterns used in counselling, with interest or career maturity scores representing simple patterns and stories and narratives most commonly associated with constructivist counselling being richer, contextualised and more complex patterns. Chaos-based counselling places significant emphasis on the process of the counselling and less on the product of counselling, which is in contrast to many other approaches. The chapter describes the challenge of complexity in career development counselling, Bright and Pryor suggested that counsellors could use a multiple perspective approach. It considers the chaos-informed career construction to develop processes that support clients in living their lives on the edge of chaos.
