ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses in more detail how the creative space emerges. It begins with a brief overview of the individual phases in developing a dance piece, followed by a description of the range of materials and elements that contribute to each successive phase in this process. Finding one's own access to a topic is like opening a secret door to a hidden land – that other land of dance. The choreographic assistant specifies all the dance steps. The movements are improved, the synchrony of the group choreographies rehearsed, and the sequences are specified and coordinated in space. When actually performed, a successful choreography is a kind of miracle. Working with guest choreographers, guest trainers and artists of all kinds also plays an important role: they introduce new ideas and push the team to adopt new perspectives and new ways of working.
