This chapter focuses on aspects of the research findings relevant to the transposition of culture. The gamelan is an ensemble of instruments on which the traditional music of Indonesia is played. Music therapy practice in the UK is grounded in improvisation and lives music-making, while also making use of pre-composed and recorded music, British Association for Music Therapy 2012. Gamelan is a generic term to describe an ensemble of instruments on which the traditional music of Indonesia is played. An ensemble consists of tuned gongs, suspended and horizontal, and metallophones, usually made from bronze, wooden xylophones, drums, a two-stringed bowed instrument, a zither-type instrument, bamboo flutes and singers. Gamelan music is linked to many aspects of life and religion in Indonesia. It is an essential accompaniment to dance, various forms of theatre such as dance-drama, and shadow-puppet plays, which are widely practised arts.
