ABSTRACT
This chapter provides an overview of woody biomass certification standards with a specific focus on the Sustainable Biomass Program. After providing a global overview of the wood energy sector (paragraph 9.1), the current sustainability requirements in different countries (paragraph 9.2) as well as existing certification schemes (paragraph 9.3) are described. Paragraph 9.4 presents, in detail, the Sustainable Biomass Program and paragraph 9.5 introduces the ENplus® certification as an example of quality certification for woody biomass. Finally, some conclusions are provided (paragraph 9.6).
