ABSTRACT

More than a quarter of a million fans have travelled from all over the world to the small town of Forks, Washington, on the North Olympic Peninsula after it was selected as the key setting for Stephenie Meyer’s highly successful book series the Twilight Saga. Before Twilight hit the town of only 3,175 inhabitants, the city’s economy was dependent on the timber industry, which was in decline. The Twilight Saga changed this town forever. As a result of the town’s proximity to the Olympic National Park, it has gained popularity among sport fishers and hikers but the number of tourists that the town has attracted as a result of the Twilight Saga is unparallelled (Destination Forks, DVD).
