ABSTRACT
In this short autobiographical account the author shows the evolution of an insight that he had in 1958 and that he has explored throughout his life. The insight is of an ambiguity that exists at the heart of the way we perceive the world. The ambiguity lies in our seeing ourselves simultaneously as at the center of the world and at the periphery of this same center. The author describes the effects that this ambiguity has in our lives and in the way we think about the world.
