ABSTRACT

O u r sample of 519 w o m e n was obta ined f r o m t w o m a j o r r e c r u i t m e n t efforts w i t h i n the state. The first subsample , the " c o n t i n u i n g e d u c a t i o n s a m p l e / ' was ob ta ined b y r e c r u i t i n g part ic ipants f r o m the u r b a n c a m p u s of a loca l un iver s i ty -based C E p r o g r a m . A l t h o u g h these w o m e n d i d n o t l ive o n campus , most d i d not l ive i n the u r b a n area i m m e d i a t e l y surr o u n d i n g the college. M a n y w o r k e d or h a d s m a l l c h i l d r e n , a n d t o o k courses p a r t - t i m e . T h e y w e r e o lder a n d m o r e l i k e l y to h a v e b e e n i n m o r e a n d i n l o n g e r - t e r m re lat ionships t h a n typica l college students.
